CICERO KAUPPI is a 12 month project funded by the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes).
The project is being co-ordinated at the CICERO Learning co-ordination unit and
partners in the project come from the University of Helsinki, Helsinki University of Technology
and Tampere University of Technology. Professor Hannele Niemi,
vice-rector of the University of
Helsinki is the principal investigator of CICERO KAUPPI.
CICERO KAUPPI arises from the need for exploring the commercial potential of learning research,
which traditionally is not a field of research that has yielded many commercial products.
The aim of the project is to explore possibilities and opportunities for commercialisation of
innovations and results from the field of learning research. The project will also explore how
researchers and academics view their role as potential developers of commercial products. The
project aims to support such activities that will help researchers and academics find support
and guidance when wishing to develop the results of their research into commercial products.
The wider goal of the project is to benchmark and model the process of developing commercial
products from learning research as well as identifying the tools and support services necessary for this process.
To achieve this, the project is divided into work packages:
• Benchmarking: Through networking with the business sector the project aims to find out how the business
sector sees the need for products from learning research.
• Pilots: The four pilot projects are being given consultation by experts in order to bring
their innovations to the market as a product. Among the products are tools for self-assessment
of learning and computer simulations for team training.
• Review: A qualitative review among researchers working in the field of learning research
is being carried out to identify the challenges and opportunities for the commercial use of
results from research into learning. Click here to download the Finnish language report of the review.
