Professor Teija Kujala was appointed Brain, Learning, and Education Professor of CICERO Learning on February 15, 2011. She got her MA in 1990 and her PhD in Psychology in 1997 from the University of Helsinki. Her doctoral thesis was on brain plasticity shown by the processing of auditory and somatosensory information in blind humans. She was the director of Cognitive Brain Research Unit in 2006-2011 and the Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience and its Clinical and Educational Applications at the Institute of Behavoural Sciences, University of Helsinki. Kujala has also worked as a Fellow at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies and as an acting Professor of Psychology at University of Turku.

Professor Kujala has specialized in learning, learning impairments, and brain plasticity. She has investigated the neural basis of auditory and speech perception, learning and perceptual impairments, such as dyslexia and autism spectrum, and neural plasticity induced by intervention. Her research has been supported by the Academy of Finland, the University of Helsinki, Philips Nordic/Baltics, the Finnish Work Environment Fund, and Ella and Georg Foundation, among others.

Professor Kujala has published over 90 publications in international journals with a referee practice and over 100 congress abstracts. Kujala has published, for example, in Trends in Neurosciences, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (USA), Progress in Neurobiology, the Journal of Neuroscience, NeuroImage, and Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews.

Professor Kujala supervises doctoral theses and acts as an opponent and examiner. She serves as a scientific expert in committees, for example, for the Canada Foundation for Innovation (Canada), the Computational Sciences research program of the Academy of Finland (Finland), the Linnaeus research environment/Thinking in Time: Cognition, Communication, and Learning (Sweden), and The Centers of Excellence Scheme, Research Council of Norway (Norway). She has acted as a reviewer for more than 30 international journals. She has also been in several Positions of Trust, for example, in the Management Groups of BioMag Laboratory, Neuroscience Research Centre, Department of Psychology, Institute of Behavioural Sciences, and the National Doctoral Programme of Psychology.
