Raija Latva-Karjanmaa was appointed as the Coordinator of
CICERO Learning in July 2006. Previously, from 2002-2006,
she was the Coordinator of Life as Learning, the National
Research Programme on learning at the Academy of Finland.
Before that, in 2001-2003, she was the Programme Coordinator
of IQ FORM at the Finnish Virtual University. During 2001-2003
she also worked as the Consortia Coordinator of Learningspace,
a European Union co-operation project for National research
programmes on learning.
Ms Latva-Karjanmaa is currently finalizing her PhD Degree
(on the role and quality of mediation on virtual learning
environments) at the National Doctoral School of Learning
Environments.
Ms Latva-Karjanmaa has been invited as an Evaluator for the
European Commission in 2005 (INTAS), for Ministry of Labour
European Social Fund projects in 2004, and for European Commission
R & D projects in 2003. She has worked as an External
Expert for the Ministry of Education in 2000-2004 and as an
Expert for designing new research programmes for the Academy
of Finland (Life as Learning 2000-2002, and Business Programme
2004).
Ms Latva-Karjanmaa has acted as the National Information
Officer in Finland for NSF of USA, Research and Innovation
Liaison Manager for EAIE (European Association of International
Education), Research Liaison Officer of Helsinki University
of Technology 1999-2000, Senior Planning Officer, European
Affairs, Helsinki University of Technology, 1994-1997. She
was an invited researcher for Open and Distance Learning in
the European Union ERASMUS programme. In 1990-1993 she designed
the International Apprenticeship Programme for Nokia Group
and ABB Industry.
During her graduate studies Ms Latva-Karjanmaa was selected
the Head of the International Student Union, IUSY Students
1987-1988, Head of a national Student Union, Member of Research
Council at the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, University
of Helsinki, 2005 and Member of University Council, 1985-1987,
University of Jyväskylä.
